18 Wheeler Accident Closes 1-10

Monday, August 30th, 2010

Sunday, an 18 Wheeler accident caused 1-10 near Beaumont to be closed until at least noon today. Nearby homes were evacuated because the 18 wheeler was carrying isobutene, which is both flammable and corrosive. The semi-trailer collided with a pickup truck causing this chemical spill.

Homes in a subdivision nearby were evacuated because the chemical was in the air and was not settling due to the oppressive heat the Houston area is suffering from. Several dozen of these subdivision residents in the little town of Hamshire, Texas,  sheltered together in a Red Cross Shelter all morning.
